Goals

To increase revenue in an impoverished community and to empower students to use their classroom knowledge for the greater good. This year, the identified project involves turning a palace in India into a tourist lodge. A local family has been providing a community in India (Kattapathar) with funds for their local hospital and school. However, these funds have run out, so the family must find a solution for how to provide help the school and hospital. They have decided to donate their palace to the local community to guide sustainability within the local community via increasing employment and revenue opportunities.

Plan

Undergraduate students create business solutions by improving financial strategy, developing marketing plans, educating communities on basic economics, expanding business into potential markets, and coordinating trade logistics. Last year SCIO had over 100 people involved, and sent 67 students to implement their business solutions in Panama. This year, SCIO has expanded to 3 schools across the nation and this is the first year SCIO is participating at the University of Texas Austin.
