GIVING - A NATIONAL RESPONSIBILITY
Giving is an inspiring act which looks at how each one of us can change the world and impact a life. For the world to be a safe place to stay, everyone must give towards the achievement of a safe world. First and foremost, givers never lack, GIVING’ is an unregrettable act, it reveals the extraordinary and innovative efforts being made by families, individuals, companies and organizations, to solve problems and save lives both on our streets and around the globe. Our resources do not go down the drain when they are given to humankind; we get blessed in return and leave a purposeful life seeing someone else enjoy life. GIVING’ goes beyond giving to humanity; it extends to giving back to the environment by embarking on afforestation programme. In most communities, people with disabilities, diseases and the poor are socially stigmatized, politically marginalized and economically disadvantaged. This category of people need more than sympathies which demoralize them and throw them into despair, secular humanity should be discouraged because we are countrymen and brothers. We should not only extend a helping hand to those from our families but to those who are in dire need of help. The hour has come for Ghanaians to cultivate the habit of giving; we would live in a very beautiful and a peaceful world when we all become committed givers.
This then urges us to seek out what each of us, regardless of income, available time, age, and skills can do to help, to give people a chance to live out their dreams. GIVING’ comes in several forms; it could be Food, Things (clothes, shoes, toiletries medical care etc.), Money, and Time, Education, Job and Health care. Because we leave in an interdependent world, we can rarely escape each other’s problems. It is very important that everyone gives whether big or small, all put together will make a huge difference. While we do not have the same amount of money, we do have twenty- four hour in everyday. Though some people rarely have less free time than others, nearly everybody can carve out some opportunity for giving. Most individuals, families, and corporate bodies in the country have things they can easily give away to people who have need of them. It is not a must for one to give money but you can give what you have available it could be your skill, time, things etc. Transferring a little of what you have to others can empower them in several amazing ways. It is therefore a call to everyone in the country to contribute towards the betterment of less privilege lives in society. We are all vulnerable to the terror, armed robbery, spread of disease, and the potentially calamitous effects of climate change. The fact that one of four people who die this year will succumb to AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, or infections related to dirty water, casts a pall over all children’s future and as long as more than 100 million children in poor countries are not enrolled in school , there will be political and social instability, with national and global implications. In every corner of Ghana and all over the world, intelligence and energy are evenly distributed, but opportunity, investment, achievement, and effective organization aren’t. Even though intelligence and energy have been distributed equally, some children will never get to exhibit their intellectual capacity if help is denied them. We live in a country where Giving is made government responsibility instead of seeing it as a collective responsibility. If everybody, including companies, corporate bodies, and individuals would give back to society meaningfully what a great nation Ghana would be. It is about time Ghanaians learn to give their time, money, useful things, and love and hope to the people in the society that they may achieve their dreams. We are all responsible for our society and the people in it especially those whose lives are engulfed with hopelessness and despair. We must express our nationality by giving to the needy and back to the society. Ghana will be a better place if everybody is Giving’ towards the education of children in Ghana. Patriotism goes beyond wearing national colors for the sake of wearing but it is even more patriotic to give back to society to ensure the lives of the less privileged, disabled are made more meaningful and fulfilling. It is a measure of inadequacy of the oft said ‘WE ARE ONE NATION’ if we are not able to extend a helping hand to a child of the land. As a result, millions of people are denied the chance to live their fullest potential, and millions die needlessly every year without seeing their wishes and dreams realized. I believe lives can be saved and potentials reached if private citizens will give themselves to doing public good. Amidst all our accumulation of wealth, there are people who are hungry, homeless, jobless, ill, disabled, desperate, isolated, and ignored. It is sad to say that in some homes there is enough to eat and to spare whiles others go to bed on empty stomach. Without a helping hand children with dreams and aspirations but with nobody to help them, will die without realizing their dreams. The hour has come for us to make such a difference and keep working to move our society, our country and our world away from poverty, disease, conflict, and climate change. It is paramount we use our time, experience, and contacts to help in saving lives, solving problems, and empowering more people to achieve their goals. We all have the capacity to volunteer, by giving money, time, things, skills, ideas, and innovation to build a better future for the disadvantaged.
