Bringing Chinese documentaries to PBS viewers later this year is a first step towards building a global network of public television broadcasting, where producers worldwide can tell their communities' stories to their neighbors around the world. My training in anthropology and media, and decades of work with intercultural documentary and with major cultural institutions like the Smithsonian Institution and WTTW Chicago Public Television, converge to form the vision of a world where we can all share our lives and solutions to common problems through noncommercial television.
